Highlights of Puerto Escondido,
We have enjoyed our stay here in Puerto Escondido. We have made many great friends here which  will make it hard to say good by. Good friends like George and Ruth, Cindy and Ed, Larry and Judy
and of course many others. And not to forget Patty and Rafa who have the tenda (mini store) to whom we are truly grateful. We are very glad we stayed here during the summer months. It was hot lots of times 100 degrees with humidity 80 and the water 89 degrees. But the water falls after it rains was spectacular. The Sierra La Giganta mountains were so green with lots of wild flowers. We took a hike up Steinbeck Canyon with our friends Hal and Nancy off sv Shakedown. It was 89 degrees we could have been in he Grand Canyon, huge boulders, water falls, with pools of clear clean water with the depths of 7 to 8 feet. Lots of butterfly's, birds, lizards and even a tarantula that walked just 3 inches from my foot. He was about 5 inches in diameter.
Now we are officially out of the hurricane season and into the season of the Northerlies, which originate up in Arizona and blow all the way down the gulf. These can sometimes reach wind speeds of 30 to 40 kts and blow for days or even a week or more. Wow I thought that once the huricane season was over it would be smooth sailing, but not so.
We thought we would take a sail up north to Bahia Conception on November 2nd, to explore before
heading south for  the winter. We went into Ballandra which is on Isla Carmen. We had a nice over night there. From there we sailed up to Caleta San Juanico and experienced our first Norther. Winds were 30 to 35 kts so we waited it out for 3 days. On the 4th day, Saturday the winds were supposed to come down to 15 kts by noon but did not. It built to 32 to 35kts  n our nose and 6 ft seas´s. It was cold and wet so we decided to head back to Puerto Escondido where it is much warmer. We had a  fast sail back hitting speeds of 7 and 8 kts. We  had  started our day at 6:45 am and made it back 56nm to Puerto Escondido at 5:30 pm. It was great to be back we were only gone a week, but it has been our home for the past 4 1/2 months. We will miss this place when we leave. You can track our travels on     forcast.predictwind.com/tracking/display/shearwater510          will up date soon
