La Paz to Puerto Escodido

Hola Family and Friends,

It took a while to up date our BLOG do to technical difficulties, internet is sparse at best but it probably mostly my trouble with computers. On our last BLOG I left out a few important events, so I will mention them now. Our good friend Ard met us in Monterey on Christmas Day to sail with us around Point Conception we had crab dinnner on the Monterey wharf and left early on 12/26/14 from Monterey to Santa Barbra.  It was a long 3 days and 3 nights of sailing with some engine problems (our fresh water pump on the engine went out). We even got a tow from our good friends from Vessel Assist Santa Cruz, Monte and Tony and we were very happy to see them. We finally made it to Santa Barbra at 9:30am on 12/30/14 very tired. Also I didn´t mention that Becky and my Mom came to visit for the week end in Santa Barbra. We had a great timeand my Mom said she had the best night of sleep. And the third thing I didnn´t mention in my first BLOG was that Becky, Armondo, Megan and Adrianna came to Ensenada on April 8,2015 for 4 days of fun. We walded all over town, went for a horse baccck ride on the beach and had lobster dinner yum!

Now for our latest up date. We were in La Paz from May 29,2015 until August 2,2015. Long time but we returned home for my Mom´s Birthday and see our kids. It was of course a great time. While in La Paz we did a lot of bike riding, swimming, paddle boarding and a lot of tennis. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:30 am til 12 noon and yes it was hot. I even took a 2 hour tennis lesson on Tuesday mornings. Wow that will get you in shape. It was great fun with some new friends, Linda and John Botts, Kieth captain of Kaliroy, Hal and Nancy and a few others would join in.We also took a panga out of La Paz  around the magote to go swimming with the whale sharks what fun. for my birthday Eric and I went in an ultra light float plane to get a birds eye view of La Paz and all the wonderful sea life.

We left La Paz on 8/2/2015 Malia´s Birthday. Happy Birthday Malia! to travel up north into the Sea of Cortez to a safe harbor for hurricane season. Our first stop was Isla Espiritu Santos and anchored in Partida Cove. Then Caleta Partida where we hiked up to this volcanic vent cave. All of these mountains were formed from volcano´s millions of  years ago. WE sailed back to Baja leaving these beautiful little Islands with there clear water over light coral sand and turquoise water of about 85 degrees. We landed in San Everisto and took in the sites of a small fishing village. We walked though this town of about 20 families. They had a nice school,a tienda (small store), goat farms, pigs, cattle and chickens all running around free. Eric and I enjoyed watching them walk them selves up the mountains in the evenings for feed and return in the mornings all together in a line,  very cute. We walked to the other side of the island to a natural salt flat were they collected the salt for sale.

Our next stop and favorite place was 8/7/2015 arrived in Bahia Agua Verda we stayed there for  few days. Great snorkeling around Pyramid Rock, caves dot the hill sides. This is another quintessential fishing village that was very clean and again goat farms, pigs, cattle and  chickens with a tienda.

We arrived on 8/10/15 at Puerto Escondido 22 nautical miles from Bahia Aqua Verde and 14 nm from Loreto. It was a nice sail down saw a couple of flying Mante Ray,  only they are actually (mobula´s) a smaller ray but still 4 to 5 feet across. Now we are in a  hurricane hole no  worries:). Met a lot of new friends here. There are 117 mooring balls and only 9 boats out here and only 3 live  aboard. Most mornings we swim from 11am til 12:30 or so we are getting our exercise. Then paddle board, read, computer work, sewing and always more boat projects. We meet up again at the little tienda for the 3 o'clock meeting of knowledge. Where we discuss all sorts of  things and if anybody needs help or rides into town. Our friends Hal and Nancy finally arrived after 14 days. We rented a car for the day for $35 and they delivered it to the harbor. Site seeing in Loreto beauutiful clean friendly little town. Then we drove up this rugged mountain road into Sierra La Giganta meaning giant mountains,  they rise up to 908 feet and are very green because of all the rain during the summer months. Some parts were washed away and again cows, donkey, horses, and goats walk freely. At the top was Mission San Javier a delightful and historical destination which was built over 400 years ago.

Puerto Escondido has a restaurant, pool, tienda, water, garbage, fuel, wifi (sometimes) and some mooring balls even get cell service. All this for just $9 a day or $263 a month wow that's cheep. It is quiet here with 117 mooring balls only 9 boats in the harbor and only 3 live aboards. It is surrounded by Sierra La Giganta that compare to our Grand Canyons. They are very green and when it rains there are many water falls flowing down them. Most of the rain is in the summer months. Ok we have given a lot of  high lights but can not express any of our freedom. When and where are always dictated by the weather. But the feeling sitting at an anchorage in a beautiful cove spectacular!

We do experience Chubasco that come up fast and furious, in the summer month with 30 to 50 knotts of wind. But we have been lucky God willing not to  experience a hurricane. Thats about it for now we will keep you posted. :) You can now track our position by going to this web site   htt://forecast.predictwind.com/tracking/display/shearwater510
